I had bought a large tam-tam for the composition Momente and set the instrument uo in the garden. Last summer I therefor made a number of experiments in which I excited the tam-tam to vibration using most varied objects — made of glass, card-board, metal, wood, rubber or plastic — which I had assembld from arround the house. In one hand I held a highly drectional microphone that was connected to a filter; the output of the filter was connected to a potenciometer, whose output was in turn made audible by speakers.
